Point taken. Its about value and cost. In an already stress financial and political picture, is this really helpful or necessary? I say, no. Here is an example:
HIPAA Conformance Certification Organization (HCCO). HCCO is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the creation, implementation and acceptance of criteria and processes required for certification and accreditation programs for HCCO Compliance of Transactions, and Privacy and Security Regulations. One requires verification in the form of a credential from NCQA. Another, the credential from HCCO. Yet another from AHIMA. Where does this insanity stop? I truly don't understand those that share the illusion that the providers/covered entities aren't going to pay for all of this. The entire cost of providing care increases. The slippery slope. And we've taken more resources out of the healthcare system that could have been used to substantially improve the quality of care (reduction of medical errors, reduced M+M, improved access, substantive public health issues) and reduce liability to the providers. I did a master thesis on this very subject, not that that matters, just that I've taken the time to look at the issue. There are national professional groups who have shaken a stern finger at the vendor industry about "truth in advertising" and about gouging clients to bring them into compliance. The examples I cite, I respectfully offer, sit in the same church, same pew. Chris Brancato --- The WEDI SNIP listserv to which you are subscribed is not moderated.
