At a recent conference, Kepa stated that if the top 50 errors in existing claim submissions were fixed by technical remediation by a software vendor or clearinghouse, that between 87-94% of existing claims would be compliant without involving the provider.
Does a list of these technical errors exist in a form that could be used as a checklist? I know that the results will be different by vendor, but this sounds like a great starting point to help determine the viability of one solution over another when it comes to vendor (especially clearinghouse) services and selection. Also, are there any lists available of the errors that have always (or predominately) required provider intervention to resolve? We work with about 30 rural hospitals who, to this point, have yet to begin addressing their TCS testing and compliance issues. As with most small providers, they believe that their software or clearinghouse vendors will make them compliant and that there's nothing they can or need to do for TCS. What I'm hoping to do is identify where some of their problem areas will be so that they realize they need to begin taking responsibility for their own cash flow. Clearly, I'd prefer to do this without having to walk through the 837 Institutional guide item by item with each of them.
