I keep receiving errors due to not having an
attending physician EIN or SSN on my outpatient or ER patient
claims. My 2310A loop often has a referring physician or non-billing
physician listed on my technical claims for outpatients and ER patients - these
physicians do not have an EIN or SSN listed for them. The IG says that this
loop is required on inpatient claims or encounters. Does this mean only
inpatient? Does encounters pertain to outpatients? Can I just
eliminate the name from popping up in the 2310A loop for my outpatients/ER
patients and not have a problem?
