Follow-up Comment #1, bug #19999 (project weechat):
There is a workaround to use QUOTE command like I use it for freenode
authentication: /quote NickServ IDENITFY xxxxxxxxxx
And to test if only first option is send you may use Raw buffer (open with
combination "Alt+J Alt+R") and you will see what weechat really send.
PS: I did not tested if your bug appears in current cvs or not
