Follow-up Comment #1, task #9497 (project weechat):
I'd personally suggest going ERE instead of PCRE simply because ERE can be
done natively with no extra dependencies than the usual ones for C code (libc,
etc) wherease PCRE would require you to install your distribution's PCRE
package that is not installed by default on Debian or ArchLinux or CentOS.
