Follow-up Comment #3, bug #37775 (project weechat):
I tested it with all the combining characters, and they seem to work as
intended now. Some technically "valid" sequences, like:
' xccx8e xccx8f'
only appear in the input bar but not in the chat window when I hit enter.
Using a combining character sequence on a space is quite silly though and
shouldn't ever be done in practice I don't think.
Multiple combining characters do work:
'yxccx85xccx8f'
and this is a very good thing indeed. :)
