Thanks Tom for the quick and thoughtful reply. Going way up the abstraction stack, I thought of another way to do this. My Java program is run from cron. Would it work to have cron run the Java program and then run wee_database --rebuild-daily --binding=gem_binding? I seem to remember that wee_database is "smart" enough to only rebuild the latest records.
#6 Rewriting my Java program in Python is sort of a last resort. I taught myself Python when I started running weewx several years ago. However, I decided to write some Android apps and learned Java.
