Not a debian packaging guy, but why are you precompiling anything ? Can’t you just distribute the uncompiled python files and let first runtime do that ?
Re: test suites and util directory etc. It’s great they are included, but they don’t have to execute to inctall the dpkg do they ? Should anything other than minimum runtime execute as a package (or pip) is installed other than installing the startup file ? Bumping the minimum python version might have helped this one but doing so opens up a can of worms.
