                                Issue #69

      EDITORS NOTE
<><><><><><><><><><>

Dear subscribers,

Welcome again to another issue. Good to see you all again!

Tomorrow I'm expecting an old friend from New Zealand. His
name is Buddy.

Buddy worked in Bruges for 5 years as a waiter, and went
back home 3 years ago. He will stay in my place for a whole
week, and then travel trough Europe.

Now, why do you have to know this, you probably wonder?

Well, because of Buddy's visit, I will not be able to send out
an issue of this E-zine next week. This will be a week of Fun
and Partying :-)

I hope you don't mind, but now and then you need to make
time for your friends.

Thanks for understanding this, and see you in 2 weeks!

Dirk Dupon, your editor

* Hair Trek

In 1994, actress Kate Mulgrew took the bridge of the Starship
Voyager and began filming her first scenes for the new Star Trek
TV series. Filming continued that week at various locations.
Mulgrew, a strikingly beautiful woman with a strong, noble face,
was filmed wearing her hair down, in a natural fashion. Movie
executives preferred her hair up. With a wig of mythic proportions,
Mulgrew, cast and production crew were forced to reshoot many
scenes, at great expense, for the sake of hair. Sets were rebuilt,
and extras brought back. All this for a big, ugly wig :-)

 WEIRD NEWS
-------------------------------------------------------------

The pastor of a California church says Tom Jones has
brought his flock closer to God. Pastor Jack Stahl plays
his songs and dresses like him for his services at the
Progressive Universal Life Church, in Sacramento. Mr
Stahl says the Welsh singer has a divine voice and
performs spiritual and supernatural songs. He told the
New York Post that he begins speaking in tongues and
aping Jones' Welsh accent when he listens to his songs.
But female churchgoers are asked not emulate Jones fans
who throw their knickers on stage. He said: "We have about
200 members of all ages, although there are quite a few
older women who are big Tom Jones fans."

A taxi driver in Singapore serenades his passengers with
Achy Breaky Heart on his in-car Karaoke machine to relieve
stress. Jeffrey Tan installed the machine to entertain his
fares and break the stress of traffic jams. His favourite is
the Billy Ray Cyrus country hit, which he can sing in six
languages including Japanese and Thai. Mr Tan claims
his passengers enjoy the service. "I set up this system to
release stress. We are living in a very fast paced world
and very stressful," he said. "So, a very good form of releasing
stress is by singing. I set up this system for myself and
for my clients, so that they can de-stress," said the driver.

It's every undergraduate's dream: staying in bed and
still getting a qualification. Katherine Hymers: 'I am
doing nothing for my art, the nothing will be my art'
Katherine, an art student from Suffolk, has found a
way of living the dream. She is spending four days
beneath her duvet for her end-of-year show. She is
lying asleep as visitors view the work of her fellow
students on a foundation course at West Suffolk
College, in Bury St Edmunds. Miss Hymers says
the work, in which she sleeps on a single bed set
in the centre of the floor, is a symbol of her struggle
as an artist, representing the way that her art has
become her life. "I have begun to realise that the
process of my work is more important than the final
product," she said. "There need be no final product.
My work is about me, it's about searching and
struggling."

 USER TIP

Geek-Speak Buster: "Worm"

Not the normal garden variety, these are Internet
Worms. And far more dangerous than those slimy things
that crawl around the flowers. A worm is a self-replicating
virus that does not alter files. Instead, it sets up its
tent in your memory, and begins to duplicate itself. Worms
use parts of an operating system that are automatic and
usually invisible to the user. It is common for worms
to be noticed only when their uncontrolled replication
consumes system resources, slowing or halting other tasks.

If your system is running slower and slower, maybe you have
a worm. How would you find out? Run a virus scan. Norton,
McAfee, or InoculateIT should do the trick.
