Ants attack!
Nearly 100 houses on an Australian estate will be
demolished after they were damaged beyond repair
by ants. Authorities in Booragul admit they can't control
the white ants and say demolishing the 97 homes is
unavoidable. The ants have eaten through ceilings,
walls and staircases in the 1970s-built town houses.
Tenants from 47 houses have already been relocated
while 50 families will be moved in the next six to 12
months.
A funeral director is offering to scatter people's ashes
over a mountain range after taking them on a last flight
in a helicopter. David Dew from Masterton will fly the
ashes to a mountain peak in the Tararua Range. The
ashes will then be scattered. Mr Dew says relatives
can think of their loved ones when they look at the
mountains. The area is 1,200 metres up on an
isolated knoll between Mount Holdsworth and
Mount Mitre, overlooking the Wairarapa. It costs
�35 for the basic service and �30 extra if a relative
wants to accompany the ashes. There will have to
be six urns on each flight to make the trip affordable.
Doctors in Germany have found an inch-long earwig
living in a woman's ear. Britta Frey, from Berlin, had
been kept awake by a scratching noise, but couldn't
work out from where it came. Doctors washed out her
ear and the live earwig appeared. Her hearing hasn't
been damaged. Ms Frey: "Every time I turned round it
seemed to be coming from somewhere else. It was
really creepy. I went back to bed but could not sleep
a wink because of the scratching. Next morning I
asked a friend to come round to help me track down
the noise but she could not hear a thing, so I decided
to have my ears checked out." A spokesman for
Wenckenbach Hospital said: "The woman was very
anxious because she had heard stories about insects
that climbed into people's ears to eat their brains. We
had to assure her it was it not possible, and that there
were no eggs or baby earwigs waiting inside her ear
to munch on her brain."

choose the System Information Utility. Located in the box
on the right, there's a list of details. Look for the length of
time the current windows session has been running.
