A German man who did not turn up to work because he
fancied a day off was found hiding in his wardrobe. Bosses
at the painting and decorating firm in Koblenz, Germany,
where the man works, called police when he failed to show
up or answer his telephone. According to his boss, he is
usually a very reliable member of staff. After forcing their way
into his house, police discovered the man, who has not
been named, sitting in his wardrobe. A spokesman for the
police in the west German city said: "He told us he just
couldn't face going into work and wanted some peace and
quiet. But we are still not sure why he hid in his cupboard."
A Middlesbrough fan who fell asleep during his team's
4-0 defeat against Arsenal will stand trial accused of being
drunk at a football ground. Adrian Carr had hoped the case
would be thrown out but he was told today at Teesside
Magistrates' Court he will face a two-day trial. The 28-year-
old, of Teesville, Middlesbrough, denies being drunk at the
Riverside Stadium on August 28. Since the match Carr, who
works as a machinist at an engineering factory, has been
stopped from using his �370 season ticket. A pre-trial review
of the case will be heard at Teesside Magistrates' Court in
four weeks and Carr is scheduled to stand trial in February
next year.
A Chinese man killed his dog so he could retrieve bank
notes it had eaten while it was supposed to be guarding them.
Sun Xiaoshan, a mason who lives in Honghu City, in Hubei
Province, had left the dog guarding the equivalent of �215.
He had been paid the money for helping another villager build
a house and left it at home when he and his wife went out
to work the next day. They placed it under a glass plate and
tied their one-year-old house dog near it, in case anyone
should break in. But when they got back, only five banknotes,
worth about �50, were left and the rest had been eaten,
reports the Hong Kong edition of China Daily. In anger, Sun
killed his dog and was able to retrieve some bits and they
were able to piece together 14 notes.
