Subject: JAX 117E again

On one visit to South Wales I managed to get U1766 parked next to
several other members of the batch and took the attached photo despite
the appalling weather. Well, I didn't actually asked for it to be
parked specially and it was only just over three years old, so finding
another MW wasn't too difficult!

It was in fact my second visit to Aberdare, on 22nd June 1970. Little
did I appreciate the significance of the photo at the time!

My journey to Aberdare had involved my only ride on RS167 (LAX 101E)
in service from Aberdare, from Cardiff to Mountain Ash on the 175. I
got off at Mountain Ash to take a quick look at the NCB steam locos
there - the first of many visits.

Regards,

David Beilby
