23 years ago, a bus war was underway in Merthyr Tydfil. The recently reformed
Red & White company decided to enter the fray. Their initial contribution was
to send about half a dozen minibuses to the the town from its Cwmbran depot.

To cover for these, while further vehicles were sourced, a similar number of
buses were loaned from fellow Western Travel Group company Cheltenham &
Gloucester. These were mainly Leyland Nationals from Cheltenham, Gloucester and
Swindon and a Cotswold liveried Leyland Tiger with Plaxton Paramount body.
