Follow-up Comment #2, patch #1068 (project wesnoth):
The 1.4 backport patch is now available. This patch is fully backward
compatible with existing clients. Newer clients will signal the server to do
the right thing while older clients or clients running with an old, non-zero
"ping_timeout" set in their preferences will fallback to the old server
behavior; which means forced pings.
