Follow-up Comment #2, bug #16783 (project wesnoth):

A little update on my original submission:

I noticed that when the game crashes that way, if I select "relaunch" in the
window that tells me wesnoth crashed, the settings will have changed. I
usually have my wesnoth in english, but when relaunching after that crash, my
wesnoth will be in french (my actual system language), and I will be able to
go into local multiplayer, but it won't recognise any add-on or whatever. As
if it had a whole different preference set, which I can't find on my machine
afterward (no new application support folder is created or anything).

If I instead select "close" after the crash and launch wesnoth normally, I
will have my normal preferences (language is english), and the game will
crash when attempting to enter local multiplayer.

I should also add that I noticed the crash happens after recreating the
cache: if I have an add-on with errors or something, the game will tell it
couldn't be read and give me the error message, and then crash afterwards,
instead of going to the game creation window. If there is no add-on (or none
with errors), it will just crash after recreating the cache.
