Hi!
It seems I forgot to add the instructions for MAC/Linux aswell. The .exe is
just windows related.
Could you check what java version do you have? If you don't know how you can
check this:

Since you have 10.5.8 I'm afraid that just Java 1.4 is available.
Also: the "opened" application, did it at least showed some wesnoth
background?
After you have started the application, and closed, you might want to check
the Error log and tell me if it's written something there. There may be a
problem running eclipse on your version.
Also, please try the other release: macosx.cocoa.x86_64.zip . Maybe your MAC
is not 64 bit, but 32 and that happens in linux aswell.
