Yesterday we had some severe load problems with the server and also discovered that they might partly be due to a broken checkout of the stats page. wesstats.wesnoth.org was meant as successor of stats.wesnoth.org and created during SoC 2009. So what have we done for the moment: The "upload sink" at wesnoth.org is gone and the part of the site is not accessible anymore. It looks like there is currently noone maintaining the campaign statistics anymore and they are for this producing too much load. Due to this my proposal: Lets completely remove this feature from branches/1.8 as well as trunk and see it as dead. The reason for the removal from branches, too, is that currently the majority of all calls to the website are directed at the upload stuff.
The stats were already unusable for a while anyway, so I think removing it from the game source, too, will not make a real difference and just produce a little less load on our machines. Personally I'd like to see a decision about this before the next release of branches/1.8 which will be 1.8.1 next Saturday. Any comments? Someone volunteering to do the removal or anyone who wants to step up and fix things for the stats as well as maintaining it?
