Hello All,

In Wesnoth 1.11.7, a new AI recruitment candidate action was introduced as
result of flix' GSoC project that has many advantages over the old one. If
you are not familiar with it, see
http://wiki.wesnoth.org/AI_Recruitment

The one controversial issue (as least as far as I have seen) is that the AI
now saves gold under certain circumstances, which people have argued should
not be the default. See:
http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=39700
There's also been a positive comment about this (in another thread):
http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=39622#p565131
(see last comment on first page; the first comment on the second page
doesn't really seem to refer to recruiting).

Note that nobody has argued that this is not a good and useful feature in
general, the discussion is entirely about whether it should be the default.

I believe that we should really make a decision about this for the 1.11.9
release, so please weigh in here if you have an opinion. I'll start with
mine:

>From what I have seen so far, the new gold-saving scheme does not make the
AI play better, make scenarios work better or "be more fun" all around. It
seems to do so for some scenarios and has the opposite effect in others.
It does, however, require a certain fraction of scenarios to be rebalanced
which, given the number of scenarios out there between mainline and UMC, is
a lot of work. So, my current vote would be to go back to the old default
(no gold saving).

Cheers,
Matthias (mattsc)
