- Elvish Pillager: I think American politics is even worse than Wesnothian
politics.
-.
- Kamahawk: Yeah.
-.
- MadMax: So, how about we talk abour wesnothian politics :) ?
- "ILLEGITIMUS NON CARBORUNDUM"
-.
- Elvish Pillager:
- Ok:
- In Wesnoth, all citizens follow a leader, so their loyalty is unquestioned,
and also there is always at least one
- reasonably wise leader. What's more, the wise ones tend to end up in power,
eventually. Also, the only form of
- resistance is rebellion, and the only form of trickery is legitimate combat
trickery, rather than befuddling people
- with false information to get them to vote for inadequate leaders.
-.
- Scott: I always thought it was odd that in movies, books, tv, and video games
the leader was always the oldest
- or wisest guy who actually had leadership ability, wisdom, and the support of
the people. In America, the
- leaders are lawyers. Especially at the local level some of these yahoos look
like used car salesmen.
- Occassionally there will be a former doctor or businessperson running for
office. But our lawyer-leaders are
- the exact opposite of the leaders we put into our fiction.
- "Manual Signature"
-.
- Elvish Pillager:
- It's the Rule of Law that causes these problems. Without laws, some old wise
guy with Leadership and
- canrecruit=1 (or something) can just become, very directly, the de facto
leader of a group of people. With them,
- some idiot who isn't really supported ascends. I prefer direct rule by the
people, and by law, rather than
- resorting to these power-hungry middlemen who serve no purpose except to be a
leader, which monarchs
- and old wise men do MUCH better.
-.
- Shadowfury333: EP, could you please be clearer. Are you in favor of idiots in
power, or wise men in power?
-.
- scott: theoretically the public servants aren't in "power", they speak for
the people they represent. I suppose
- ideally the representatives have perfect knowledge of our wills and advocate
our wishes. In practice however,
- we place so much emphasis on leadership and what the person does in office
because the idiots are given free reign
- to act on their own. It's a hole we dig ourselves into by not communicating
with those who represent us.
-.
- eugenelim: What's the Wesnoth version of watergate or clintongate?
-.
- scott: betraying the king during a war and having your son take the throne
-.
- Shadowfury333: "I am not a betrayer." Doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
-.
