Hi Robert,

Thank you for your question. Indeed the concern you have raised is a genuine
one. However, it seems to have come to late. The request for names has been on
the page for more than ten weeks, if am not mistaken. Infact we have moved back
and forth with it so much so that i strongly feel. The only thing we can do at
this stage is to include the names you have proposed on the list for the vote
without having to open another discussion that will make us move in circles
without any output.

On that note i suggest you cast your vote and the process proceeds to a
conclusion. Some times too much emphasis leads to procrastination. Let's be
decisive.

Thank you.

Subject: [WestNileNet] About the proposed name

Dear colleagues,

Thanks for the proposed names for the West Nile development inititaives.
What is unclear to me is the purpose for these names. Are they meant for
establishing an NGO, business entity, or community conscous group? Which
ever the case, I feel there is something wrong with the names. The names are
long, academic, and difficult to remember.

A name like " West Nile Global Forum for Sustainable Development" smacks of
some political connotations. Not only that it sounds like a UN development
programme for the people of West Nile.

Again the name " West Nile Strategic Development Commission" definitely
sounds like a government body undertaking a commision of inquiry into
development issues in West Nile.

It is not always true that an organisational name must capture all that it
will do, locations, and which area it will serve. We need a simple name that
ordinary people will easily identify with , and a name that can easily beome
a brand. What is important, is not how elaborate the name is, but what the
name can do.

Now , what is my suggestion?

As an NGO, we could have names such as:
"The Green North (TGN)"
"Nile Development Initaiative(NDI)"
"Nile Community Development (NCD)"
"Centre for Community Empowerment(CCW)"

As a businees
"NIle Rivers Limited(NRL)"
"Nile Waters Limited(NWL)"
"Nile Corporations Limited(NCL)"

As a community conscious group
"Nile Peoples Platform(NPP)"
"Centre for Community Consciousness(CCC or 3C)"

Am sorry for taking you back. But these suggestions were meant as food for
thought. It can still be improved. In modern times, simplicity is key -
especilly marketing and branding of products and services.

Thank you
