Dear all,

We once again would like to announce the movement of the Science Cafe -
Kampala to another day and it will now be held on Saturday June 18, 2011 at
the same time and same venue.

The reason this time has been with respect to those who have lost their
loved ones including Mr. Bayo (late) & Anne's Daughter, The Mvara OB's
associations Ochieng David Okot and Dr. Titus Alicai's Grand Parent. May
their souls rest in peace.

In moments like this we should allow members of the community focus on
supporting the families of those that have lost their loved ones.

Best regards

Richard

Subject: The Science Cafe - Kampala

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It's been a while since you heard from us I am sure! We have been thinking
and reloading The Science Cafe - Kampala. We want to have the best in
quality of dream, talk, internalize and act so the knowledge sharing
re-loaded will this time have three panellists and the theme of discussion
this time is Agriculture for Sustainable Development ...

In this cafe we would like to introduce farming, the changing dynamics of
farming in terms of inputs, production quality (improved varieties and other
inputs), soil use as well as changing climate patterns and remedies. Many
will indeed agree that Agriculture has much changed from subsistence farming
to commercial knowledge based farming (as written in asili4u.wordpress.com)
and people are more and more looking at production for the market. Hence
looking at the power of organised farmer groups/cooperatives as well as
workable financing models.

The panel will include;

Dr. Titus Alicai (PHD - Plant Virologist)

Lead discussant based at Namulonge Research Station

Titus will focus on the technical aspects of Agriculture in the face of the
current trends in the world, we all are aware that improved varieties of
plants are being developed all the time, e.g. Drought resistant cassava,
groundnuts etc, there are new methods too, as well as issues of sustainable
use of soil and irrigation among others.

The discussion however will focus overviews to assist lay farmers and
intending farmers to learn some of the pertinent issues on the ground.

Mr. Richard Okuti

Discussant and Senior Consultant at I-Network for livelihoods also a
Consultant for Private Sector Foundation and Entrepreneur at Asili Richlands
a Marketing, Innovations and IT firm.

Richard will focus on advantages of building organised farmer groups and the
use of market intelligence (including ICT) in making produce marketing
decisions.

Ms. Diana Ondoga

Discussant and Pinnacle Analyst at DFCU Bank, also worked in Training,
Customer Service & Sales in the bank in the past years.

Diana will focus on potential financing mechanisms from banks as well as
eligibility for such funds. She has experience in the banking sector that
will be useful to the farming community.

The Science Cafe - Kampala will be hosted by Mr. Joseph Dramadri and Friends
Bar (famously known as Jose's Bar in Nalya), it will take place on Saturday
June 4, 2011 at 4:00pm. The venue is free for all eats and drinks will be
served at participants cost.

We invite all interested people to come and share knowledge on this subject
but also learn from others. Other issues that may be touched are other
viable cash crops for West Nile and Soil rejuvenation for dying soils in the
region.

Kind regards

Richard Okuti
