Dear Christine, Thanks for sharing with us these initiatives that are bringing to light the plight of our mothers dying during the process of exercising their reproductive functions. I have been following the court case about the death of these two mothers which occured in Arua and Mityana hospitals and I think we need to look at the problem in a broader context. I know most of the maternal complications associated with child birth occur due to delays in seeking health care, reaching a health facility and delays in accessing the service. Providers are trying their best amidst the apalling situation of inadequate equipment, supplies, and staff motivation. I wonder if any efforts have been put to explore the community aspects of the problem, so that we get a better understanding of the situation and I guess community audits of those maternal deaths and verbal autopsy's could be useful. Is that what is intended during the Al Jazeera documentation? Best regards, Aldo Burua

If you know of compelling stories of mothers who have died at delivery and the families are willing for the story to be covered and aired to the world, please get in touch with me. This is aimed at putting pressure on government to impove conditions in our health facilities.
