Dear PSFU Member,

We are pleased to invite you to take part in the study tour to Egypt that has the theme "Bench Marking for competitiveness in trade". This tour seeks to expose how Egypt maximises its scarce resources to their full potential so as to benefit from trade with COMESA and other countries.

With the Nile river as its only water supply where only 3% of its land is arable, Egypt has managed to do agriculture to the tune of 20% of its GDP and exports, and the sector employs over 34% of the working population. Egypt occupies the first rank in the world with regard to the yield of rice, tomatoes, sugar cane and cotton. As a member of COMESA, Egypt has increased its trade with the COMESA region by 90% since it joined. It has become a strategic player in the future of Africa and is the leading importer of Kenyan tea.

In view of the above, the Institute of Trade Development, a trade promotion organization within COMESA, is organizing this study tour to be carried out in Alexandria, Cairo, Port Suez, Luxor and Aswan.
