Mr. Adiga,

Just a point of correction. Maracha and Koboko never refused to share
a district with Aringa as you seem to suggest.

The issue with sharing of districts was the location of the district
HQs. You will recall that the former North Nile district (1970s) was
composed of Maracha, Koboko and Aringa counties. The GOU wanted to
reconstitue the same district with its HQs based in Koboko as was in
the 1970s.

Both Maracha and Aringa agreed to the district as long as the HQs was
not located in Koboko. For the Aringa, the HQs should have been in
Yumbe and likewise, for Maracha, the HQs was to be in Maracha - if
they had to agree to the original North Nile District! And Koboko
wanted the HQs to remain in Koboko as it was in the 1970s.

I was not aware that Terego was to share a district with Aringa but if
that was suggested, then it must have failed because of the location
of the HQs just like when Maracha and Terego failed to agree on a a
district because of the location of the HQs.

You could blame the gov't for insisting that districts be named after
their capitals - for why would a district comprising Koboko, Aringa,
Maracha be named Koboko, Yumbe or Maracha when they represent three
different peoples (even though, technically speaking there is a very
strong linkage between many of teh clans in these counties, now
independent districts?
