Dear brothers and sisters,

It has been a while since I last communicated on this forum. My email
account was probably hacked and was not getting information from Westnet.
I would second Christine in recommending consultative meeting organized by
WNF team around Kampala to discuss our development priorities. Our ideas
could be shared with local authorities in the region. As th final
requirements will go to the National Planning Unit, I would strongly
encourage participation of a large audience. There are many people from the
WN region working in various sectors of the govenment and the private
sector we could tap into.

Three years ago, we had a head count of over 60 PHD holders form this
region. Brothers and sisters, come out and join hands in constructtive
discussion. Share your ideas, expertise and knowledge. This may be the best
time and opportunity for WNF to articulate some of the issues we had raised
or drafted or even dreamed about in the WNF constitution.

When a community knows what their needs are, it is easier for a government
to come up with a strategy to implement/fullfil those needs. As key
stakeholders in the development of the region, this an opportunity we
cannot afford to drop like many other inititiatives. We have a lot of
highly talented men and women from this region whose input will be valuable
in the long term strategic development efforts of this region. There are a
lot of socio-economic issues which will continue haunt us or the generation
we leave behind. Lets Look at realistic gaps in services and identify
immediate problems that need attention/resolution, then plan for the long
term future.

Assuming money was not the problem (a constraint to many projects), what
are our short term development goals and long term development goals? What
kind of things do we want the govenment to do in 5 years, 10 years, 20
years or even 50 years?

JJ
