Hello wget community, I'm not sure if this feature has been discussed for WGET yet, but I searched the discussion board and didn't come up with much. I was thinking it would be cool if there was an option use multiple TCP sessions to download a file. I know that many of the download managers (downthemall, getright, etc..) implement such features, so that one computer can spawn multiple TCP sessions to increase download performance. But I'm pretty sure wget doesn't have this.
In implementing this feature, it would cool to be able to distribute these TCP sessions across a list of external trusted nodes. This list of external trusted nodes (may) have independent gateways to the internet, and would be able to all work together to download the file in parallel. This method of distributing TCP sessions would be helpful in the following case: Perhaps your ISP, or some core router is limiting your bandwidth to a server in a remote location on a TCP flow basis. To overcome such QoS rules, it would be cool to distribute the workload across your home computer, your office computer, and possibly even another remote computer that you might own that might be colocated somewhere else in the world. I could go on and on about this might be useful, but what do you guys think? I'm a bit of a noob, and not exactly sure what the full intention of what wget should be. Although it has a lot of great features (spidering, ripping websites etc..), maybe this feature might be out of the scope of the program. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
