Quiz #33: Logic Chips 

How much do you know about the little machine inside your computer
that carries out the orders of whatever program happens to be in
charge?  

Hint: It's usually in a little package called an "integrated circuit"
and it contains a lot of little resistors, capacitors, and
transistors.  

Yes, it's a logic chip, but there's more to it than that, and you
probably already know a lot about it.  Take our quiz and find out -
but first, here's a warm-up question:  
 
QUESTION: What device did the transistor replace those many years ago
when a computer was room-size?  And what did they call them in the
U.K.? 

That's right, the transistor replaced the "vacuum tube", which was
known as a "valve" in the U.K., according to our own definition.  But
