There is a known defect in v6/v5 that will not update the parent map status if subnets are 3 levels deep and WUG is running as a service. This issue is not present if WUG is running as a console application. That is, it can be demonstrated if WUG is a service but cannot be demonstrated if WUG is running as a regular application.
This sounds like the defect you are describing. This defect was fixed in the v7 release.
