Thanks to all who responded to my plea for help regarding SMS text messaging
in the UK. 

If it helps anyone else I'm using the one-to -one number as suggested by
Andy Young (thanks Andy) and using the SMS-TAP protocol which seems to be
working fine. Most of my problems seemed to relate to a V92.modem which
didn't seem to work properly. Swaping this out for an ancient 33,6 USR and
everthing works...could be coincedence.

Yes, I had problems with Cellnet's SMS service which I believe was due to
modem speeds.

You seem to be able to use other companies SMS centres to send across
networks, i.e. I'm on Cellnet but can happily use One-2-One to send the SMS
messages.

I don't know if you saw my previous post on the subject but here it is
again....
