Perform an ICMP scan...

Go to

File | New Map Wizard  | Discover and map network devices | Discover your
network using ICMP

Whatsup Gold will ping all the computers in your specified range and then
create a map and add them....

>From then on you are monitoring your devices by ICMP.... (ICMP is what Ping
uses)

Ofcourse if you have SNMP devices on your network, use that scan method
instead since Whatsup gold will create better map layouts that are
linked....
