Subject: Re: [WhatsUp Forum] Ethereal sniffer tool

I have used Ethereal quite a bit. I usually create a filter so that I am
only grabbing port 80 to the destination host. This will work if the logon
is imbedded in the page as opposed to a popup (ala' NTFS security).

Do a trace including the login. After you have the trace use the option to
"follow the stream" so you get a nice notepad like window of the complete
transaction from which you can copy the required http request headers. I
assume you are creating a service in WUG. I believe you need version 8 so
that you get more than one line to "send" all the necessary requests. Then
I usually use the "expect" statement to look for a "200" response.

Has anyone used the Ethereal sniffer tool? I am trying to setup WhatsUp to
Monitor a Web Page that requires Login. Any information would be
appreciated.

Thank you
