I think your 2 issues are related.

It sounds like you installed the service while the application was
running.  This causes all kinds of problems...

The fix:

1) Set the service to start manually and reboot.
2) Make sure no whatsupG.exe processes are running.
3) run "wugsvc -remove"
4) run "wugsvc -install"
5) Celebrate.

This should resolve both of your issues.
