This is what i do.  I have a WUG server sitting at my head office. I use a Cisco VPN connection to connect to the WUG subnet before I use my browser to view the WUG stats. (i also use the internal IP address of the WUG server, not external.  I make sure that all the remotes are set up to allow my PC's VPN address (a static address assigned by the concentrator that is on the same subet as the WUG server) to act like the WUG server (ie. all snmp and ACL's allow me to connect)  Then i can telnet from the browser.  From home---vpn-----office-----vpn-----remote site

Hope this helps.

RE: [WhatsUp Forum] Telnet from web

I have a similar scenario.  My WUG servers are running Windows 2000 with Terminal Services in Remote Admin mode.  Then I use the Terminal Services Advanced client from a link on the web page to RDP into the WUG server.  >From there I run Telnet.

I would much rather be able to do it in a single step (telnet directly from the web page), but this is an effective alternative.

Yes, I can do anything I want to the remote sites from the whatsup servers
because they have routes to those other networks.  Yeah, I can telnet from
the server, if I'm sitting at it, but what I would like is to be able to do
telnet to those sites, from my desktop which uses the web interface to
interact with whatsup.  Thanks

Why not just setup ssh on the WUG server and then simply telnet from the WUG
server to your remote sites? I'm presuming you can do whatever you want on
the remote sites if you initiate connections from the WUG server, although
you didn't explicitly state this fact.

Hello
I was just wondering if any of you web programmers out there know of a way
to do a telnet session from within a web browser.  My problem is, our
WhatsUp monitoring servers have routes across the wan to many sites which we
monitor.  I monitor whatsup though the web pages from my desktop which has
no way of reaching the wan.  I see that you can ping from within the web
browser to the remote sites....is there any way to setup some sort of telnet
proxy though the whatsup web interface?  Anyone ever tried to tackle a
program like this, maybe its already been done.  Thanks
