Hi Bruce,

I would try what Joe pointed out first. 

Also, many printers push a syslog.  You can find things out such as:
- printer off line
- toner getting low
- printer out of paper (kind of silly but, possible).

You could monitor the "Spooler" service.
- Configure->Monitors & Services->New->NT Service ...
You could also monitor the printers directly via SNMP.
- Configure->Monitors & Services->New->SNMP Monitoring ...
