examples in general. Send them in, the best ones will get added to

True. However, it does show a use case for the attribute.
You could also say something like: "A visual UA might display |<a
href="foo" type="application/pdf">| as: [example rendering]" .... where
[example rendering] is an image of a link with a PDF icon after it.
