Something similar to this is in the works for WebKit as well: https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25463 It's experimental and so would be exposed via window.webkitNotifications. In addition to the text+icon functionality, this also enables scripted HTML notifications, to allow things like notifications that display number of unread emails, a dynamic countdown for an event reminder, etc. It sounds like enough people are prototyping in this area (us, mozilla jetpack, Palm) that we might get consensus on a general API at some point. -atw
