People who maintain packages on the Python Package Index can now use API tokens to upload packages to PyPI and Test PyPI, instead of their username and password. This is a beta feature and we deeply welcome testing and bug reports.

Hope this isn't too off-topic. I can't think of any particular reason why this would differentially affect wheel upload versus sdist upload, but there might be other factors where clusters of wheel builders differ from sdist builders (e.g. continuous integration usage, configuration file formats, etc.).

This feature is now out of beta and we recommend you use it for all package uploads: https://discuss.python.org/t/pypi-security-work-multifactor-auth-progress-help-needed/1042/49
