Ha! Your faq for mailing lists is funny. You say that if you introduce discussion forums you'd spend all your time monitoring it and end up having no time for actually working on Wicket. What are you doing now? Right now you get around 70 new messages per day on the mailing list and "new mail" notification poping up all the time :) This, versus having a discussion forum where you can add email notification for specific threads that interest you and ignore the rest. The one feature that *is* missing from JForum (and I'm requesting it from the author now) is the ability to watch for new posts on a forum. Once that's up, I think that part of your FAQ becomes invalid.

And by the way, I highly doubt you'll ever find an email client that has a better threading capability than forum software because the latter is designed for threaded discussion in the first place. Anyway... if you guys don't want to use the forums that's just fine but I don't think the mailing list can continue this way forever. Right now I get around 70 new messages per day from wicket's lists and only reply to one or two of them.

However, when I go to gmane, I don't do it through the web, but just point my news reader to it. :-).

Just for completeness sake, and for new users wondering why we don't like forums:

Our problems with forums and other communication platforms that we currently have are outlined in this FAQ:

    http://wicket.sourceforge.net/faqs.html#why-no-forums

The IRC channel is great for direct communication between several people at once, without having to give out your IM id. So we /definitely/ like the IRC thing, but can't spend too much time on the channel. It distracts a lot of attention that would otherwise be put into the framework. Design sessions etc. are perfect for IRC, or for more direct communication
than possible through the mailinglist.

We'll create a faq/etc entry for the IRC channel with the next site update.

I can see why you guys hate using forums now :)

Gmane provides a read-only forum-like view of a mailing list
    but its
interface is really ugly and you can't reply directly to posts or add
email notification for a specific discussion thread. I was thinking of
    providing something similar to
