Alex,

I think that the answer depends on a number of things.  First, will you be able to deploy to servers running java 1.5?  How soon do you expect the project to be completed and in production?  Does a changing API bother you while working on your new project?  Do you need generics and the other improvements in 2.0?

2.0 is shaping up to be great.  But I think they are probably a few months away from a solid release (my words, not the maintainers).  2.0's API most certainly stay in a state of change before a stable release is produce.  At least it did for 1.2.  If you need your project developed on a stable framework and in production before then, I'd go with the 1.2 branch.  There is nothing wrong with either 1.2 or 2.0.  Just weigh the pros and cons and make an informed decision.

Thanks,

Dear mailing list,

I've been developing commercial custom webapplications with PHP(5) for a
couple of years now, and am seriously looking Wicket for my future
development.

Now I have an upcoming project which would greatly benefit from all the
awesomeness Wicket has to offer, but I was wondering if it's a good idea
to start with Wicket 1.2 now, when Wicket 2.0 will introduce fundamental
changes like the "constructor change"?

Thanks for your reply,
Alex
