In that case, you should use a custom IWizardModel. I based the model on 'wizard framework': https://wizard-framework.dev.java.net/. That framework has a branching version you might want to take a look at. The model Wicket's wizard uses is pretty different now from the original inspiration, but maybe still close enough to adopt the branching version.
