I agree. But note that this wouldn't solve the original request, which was to
have redirects from .wikimedia.org to the custom domains the chapters use. For
reference, this has been done for WMPT: see bug 30123.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean here. Maybe it's just me, but just in
case, could you clarify? Did you mean what Krinkle said ("[the 'chapter:'
interwiki prefix] links to inexistant wikis for some language wikis")?
