Email spam is something that is best solved via improving the spam filtering on
your inbox. As Arthur says we can't prevent this. I suspect some people send
the blank email as an easy way to exit the mail application.
I get the same messages and recently created a bot to combine these messages
into an e-mail digest which checks message length. It sometimes incorrectly
marks things as spam but keeps noise down for me. Feel free to explore using
such a bot. I can also sign you up to mine if you want to give it a test drive
