I had a look at the parser measurement included in each rendered page's source
code:

NewPP limit report
Parsed by mw1086
CPU time usage: 7.892 seconds
Real time usage: 8.483 seconds
Preprocessor visited node count: 399/1000000
Preprocessor generated node count: 3180/1500000
Post‐expand include size: 19211/2048000 bytes
Template argument size: 0/2048000 bytes
Highest expansion depth: 2/40
Expensive parser function count: 0/500

Does not look critical in any way.

My observation on large pages is that the edit & save is done correctly, but
the rendering of the altered page back to the browser fails due to time limits.
So refreshing the page after a while will show the changed content.
