Technical constraint a part I think is reasonable to keep a certain "view mode" if selected, however, thanks for involving more competent people to explain the reason of the current behaviour. Point 2: Another perfect description, and in my opinion as it is, is how it should be, so I don't see the need of any change here. Just for brainstorming.
