The field expansion is a separate module that I developed as a test. Thanks for your feedback on it, but I'm not sure it will end up being used. I'm not a huge fan of it personally :) Number 3 seems to be triggered by something in the expanding field code. When I disable it, I can't replicate the disappearing caret. I dont see number 4 as a problem. Google.com has the delay as I'd assume most other search engines that do suggestions would.
