While there may be something along those lines happening, there have been times
where purging worked for neither developer nor user. However I suppose that if
the main issue is in fact now fixed, this could be a separate issue. Probably
worth a new report if it happens again, but hopefully manual purging should no
longer be necessary for images at all.

Nobody was trying to insult you. Hartman seems to be saying that you can't
purge thumbnails directly (if so - something I did not know), and in any case
it is unreasonable to assume that because one can use the Internet, they know
about lower level issues like caching.

In Opera you cannot bypass the cache in this way, as you can in Firefox. You
can use Dragonfly to temporarily disable caching for a page, but I usually
(like you) just clear my entire cache to be sure it's really gone.
