I think this will need:
- Decision on what a "better" precision is. #structureddataoncommons wants second precision?
- Check and possibly implement Parsers and Formatters for values with a better precision. It looks like there are some basic parsers implemented for this https://github.com/DataValues/Time/blob/master/src/ValueParsers/IsoTimestampParser.php#L159-L164 (but noting extra inside wikibase). As for formatters there are currently no tests for anything more precise than a day, so this might not be done https://github.com/DataValues/Time/blob/master/tests/ValueFormatters/TimeFormatterTest.php#L64-L76
- Work on UI elements for this? If this is not immediately being enabled on wikidtaa.org then we don't have to worry about input there, but #structureddataoncommons will have to think about that.
The current time data value has its validators limiting to day precision https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-Wikibase/blob/master/repo/includes/ValidatorBuilders.php#L330-L332
This would either need to:
- change for the default "time" data value, which change both wikidata.org and commons
- be configurable per repo
- use a different data type?
