I'm not totally sure how English Wikivoyage works around the badges issue but this is not an issue with the extension but with the user generated content overlapping the banner. It looks like those might benefit from using indicators <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Page_status_indicators> ? Regarding a new parameter - the extension doesn't get active development so any feature requests are unlikely to happen any time soon without making use of the community wishlists.
