Time has passed and the situation has not really changed at all.

This topic is not even really specific to caching, but just storage and
retrieval in general.

Wikibase federation / remote access related topics
#wikibase_-_federated_properties
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/wikibase_-_federated_properties/> etc
will touch on this a little more soon (maybe).

The general problem is that JSON serialization of entities etc needs to be
deserializable in other places.
Right now the "way" to do that is via PHP libraries that thus then need to be
loaded into the other place.
This was the case for lexeme as originally described in this ticket, but will
also be the case in other possible situations, such as 1) open ended federation
of entity types? (maybe the entity type serialization and deserialization code
is not loaded on the other site?) 2) using statement value of other parts of
entities via some form of remote access?

Perhaps this starts to move away from such a hard coded data model library to
something that is much more dynamic / works for all cases.

This could be an interesting exploration to happen
