I'm not a lawyer, but if we make a tool that enables en masse importing,
wouldn't that get into the realm of database rights? I know that in the
OpenStreetMap world, it's not enough to say that place names are not
copyrightable, they still can't be imported into OSM.

There's also usually terms of use that specify how data may be used. For
example, the FamilySearch terms of use
<https://www.familysearch.org/legal/terms> say: "You may not post content from
this site on another website or on a computer network without our permission."

But I'd be very happy to be proved wrong! I'm also wondering about tools that
go in the other direction, and link Wikidata ''to'' other sites (e.g. adding
{{wikidata}} templates to WikiTree profiles). That would have a benefit to
Wikidata of making items more discoverable, and at the same time we'd add
external site IDs to items.
